In researching the City Directory of 1879 and the years following, we find an interesting list of homeowners...the 1st was a Lumber Broker- Think of it, Colorado Springs was founded in 1871, by Civil War General William Jackson Palmer. Palmer envisioned a resort city at the base of Pikes Peak. The climate, natural beauty, & mineral waters of Colorado Springs brought many tourists & health seekers to our city. After the 1891 discovery of gold in Cripple Creek, even more wealth came to the Springs. For a time, the city had more millionaires per capita than any other place in the county, all needing houses, house building needs lumber! Imagine living in a home that was part of the rich, wild west history of Colorado Springs from the beginning!
